International Circulation: Could you please explain how left ventricular end diastolic pressure (LVEDP) guided hydration in terms of the measurement itself?
Dr. Somjot Brar: The LVEDP is actually a fairly straight-forward measurement as it is made during every routine cardiac catheterization. The way we this was performed in the trial is how most perform it in clinical practice by placing a pig-tail catheter into the left ventricle and making a measurement in the standard fashion. That measurement is used to guide the rate of hydration as the patient is assigned based of their LVEDP. It effectively identifies patients who are going to be good candidates for a greater volume of hydration. At the same time, it identifies those who will likely benefit from hydration but to a moderated extent.

International Circulation: So this is just a onetime assessment? Or are you assessing throughout the procedure?
Dr. Brar: It is a onetime assessment. It is made as the first measurement when the patient first enters the cathlab, prior to any contrast administration. Once the assessment is made, the fluid rates are set and then those fluid rates are continued for the duration of the procedure and for four hours post-procedure. There is not a need for a reassessment of the LVEDP value.
